To reach as wide a public as
possible,
and to encourage reading, discussion and thinking around
film in general, and to do so regionally (despite the
borders and closures etc) the Palestinian Audio-visual
Project (PAV) has come up with the idea
of an informal network, whose members would endeavour
to show the same film on the same day or within the same
week. In return, PAV would provide the following:
1 - A free copy of the film on DVD
2 - Internet and press exposure and publicity
3 - An electronic discussion forum about the film, with
information on the programme, titles and filmmakers
4 - Most importantly, we publish on the same day as the
screenings or within the same week a serious and well-documented article on the
film that is going to be screened, which we would either
write ourselves, commission from a writer/critic or
translate, with announcements about where it will be
screened across the country etc.
This
is an entirely voluntary network with no
conditions attached except the requirement to set a
maximum ticket price (all income would go to the
participating club and PAV would not require any
payment); to mention PAV and the network on local
publicity; and to endeavour to show only films with
Arabic subtitles if the member-club requires the
network's publicity and support. This means that
member-clubs carry on doing their own screenings
outside the framework of the network but can benefit
from its services whenever they want to. Screenings
would take place on Thursday or Saturday (or
both) once a month
starting at the end of March 2007.
PAV is subtitling a number of classic films into Arabic and
publishing them on DVD. We have acquired the
non-commercial licenses for these films for
Palestine/Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria and
distribute copies of them to the forty five film clubs
which are already in place in schools across Palestine
(WB, Gaza and 1948). Titles include work by Lang,
Eisenstein, Fellini, Bunuel, Visconti, Rosi and the
Taviani Borthers
and others.
We are also supporting the publication
of a number of films on Palestinian themes and making
copies of these films available to the clubs.
